Our Philosophy & Policies

Philosophy

Here at Creative Minds we believe in  the importance of playing to learn,
child directed activities, and parental involvement.  The children experience
the world through sensory, peer interaction, and learn with circle time songs
and games.  We also use sign language with the children regularly to
enhance their fine motor skills and enhance memorization.  The children
love to sign to each other while talking throughout the day.

We plan our Preschool and Pre Kindergarten curriculum's around the Rhode
    Island Early Learning Standards.

We encourage family involvement through many “special” events as well as
incorporating an open door policy for parent(s) of the children to stop in and
visit at anytime during our hours of operation.

We celebrate diversity as well as learn about all holidays; however we do not
    teach religion.

Discipline Policy

The teachers take educational seminars and attend conferences monthly; during
each conference the teachers discuss and share new insights and ideas to working
and teaching the children. We have been collaborating for quite some time to
develop a positive discipline policy.  We wish for you to follow with this policy at
home as well.  The “Creative Way Process” will allow the teachers a direct
teaching approach to changing behaviors. We will be molding the children’s
communication, social, problem solving, and emotional skills.

24 months ~-4yrs old (Preschool 1 & 2 )
  •      Teachers will talk to the children on their level about the behavior the
    child had just chosen.
  •   The teacher will discuss and model the appropriate behavior that child
    could choose next time.
  •    The teacher will re-direct the children to new appropriate activities or
    toys.

4years ~ 5years (Pre-kindergarten & Kindergarten)
  •         Teachers will talk to the children on their level about the behavior the
    child had just chosen.
  •         The teacher will discuss and model the appropriate behavior that child
could choose next time; the children will participate in this conversation and
will create their own ideas on how they could change their actions..
  •         The teacher will re-direct the children to new appropriate activities or
    toys.
  •         “Talk it out with a friend” process will be utilized. This process will
consist of the particular children that are having a dispute, they will convene
on the “talk it out mat” in the classroom. The teacher will act as a mediator
for the children to share and discuss the problem they are having and will
create their own solution with the teachers’ small assistance. (The children
will get better at solving their own problems as the year goes on)

The above mentions “Creative Way Process” will also be in combination with
positive reward systems in each classroom and upbeat positive songs and rhymes.
